Fulton County Closes Over 100 Schools Due to COVID-19 Infection

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of concern over the Coronavirus. Whether it’s people who’ve traveled in and out of the country or people who are local to Georgia. The biggest concern is that people who are sick will unknowingly contaminate other individuals. This is why, when someone does test positive for COVID-19, they’re immediately quarantined. So are the people they may have come into direct contact with.

In Fulton County this week, a teacher who works at two different middle schools was diagnosed as having the virus. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He worked at Bear Creek Middle School in Fairburn and Woodland Middle School in East Point.

The superintendent immediately sent all employees and students home. He also sent health officials to talk to the more than 100 students the teacher came into contact with on Monday, March 9, 2020. The schools have been shut down at least through Tuesday so they can disinfect the school.

The superintendent shut down more than 100 schools in the district within Fulton County. There are more than 93,000 students who attend these schools. The district is taking as many precautions as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The school has a virtual learning program in place that they can use if need be. They have indicated that, unless they’re closed for more than three days, they will not implement this virtual learning program. The hope is that they can disinfect the schools and allow the employees and students to return to school later this week.

Many counties and states are imposing states of emergency in order to prevent the spread of this disease. They are also warning people to stay at home and avoid contact with large crowds of people. If you believe your student has been affected by this contamination, contact our office right away.
