Georgia Congressman’s Son Recovering After Dangerous Cycling Accident

On March 8, John Graves, the son of Georgia Congressman Tom Graves’ son, was involved in a serious cycling accident. He was competing in a high-speed cycling race with the Georgia Tech Cycling Club. The race was a 2-day event held in Gordon County the weekend of March 8, 2020.

The race involved a lot of wooded bike trails. John Graves and another cyclist went into the woods as part of the race but did not make it out. There have been no details released about exactly what happened. What police found when they got to the scene was John Graves and his club-mate, Juan Barazza, injured and unconscious. Both young men were transported to the hospital.

Graves was immediately placed in intensive care. He was suffering from several physical injuries and bleeding on the brain. His parents and family feared that he would not make it. The news reported this week that, thankfully, John Graves is recovering well.

He was recently transferred to a brain and spinal clinic in Georgia. He is now undergoing physical, cognitive and speech therapy at the clinic. While he still has several weeks to go, he is expected to make a full recovery. There have been no details about the condition of Barazza.

Tom Graves had already announced that he was not going to run for re-election this year. He had planned on retiring and spending time with his wife and family. He expressed his relief and gratitude this week as he saw his son make so much progress.

There is no word yet if Graves intends on filing any sort of legal action against the race sponsors or the cycling club. There is also no specific information about what caused the race.
