Any car accident that ends up with fatalities is tragic. But, when the person killed is a teenager, it’s devastating. One of the reasons young people are more prone to get into an accident is because of inexperience. When they get into dangerous situations, they don’t know how to react. This seems to be what happened in Thomson, Georgia this weekend where a high-school was student killed in a 2-car crash.
Yesterday morning, a 16-year old high school student named Amarione Thampson was driving Eastbound on White Oak Road at about 10:40 a.m. For some reason, he ran off the side of the road onto the shoulder. When he tried to get back on the road, he overcorrected and ended up driving into oncoming traffic.
As soon as Thampson entered the other lane, he was T-boned by someone driving a Dodge SUV. The high school student was taken to University Hospital-McDuffie but was pronounced dead a couple of hours later.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital but suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be fine. The identity of the other driver was not released. Nor was there any information as to what caused Thampson to run off the road in the first place.
Accidents like this tend to be very dangerous. It’s a lucky thing that more people weren’t injured in this crash. It’s also not the only high-school student who has been killed recently. This is actually the third death of a Thomson high-school student in the law few months.
Depending on what the investigation reveals, the family of the victim may have a claim for wrongful death. For example, if the accident was caused by a defect in the car, they may be entitled to damages.
