Georgia Couple and 4-Year Old Son Killed in Florida Crash

It’s not uncommon this time of year to see families on the road visiting family and friends. A lot of people like to get a head start because the roads get so crowded the closer we get to Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, with more people on the road, the number of fatal car accidents increase. This was the case for a Georgia couple and their 4-year old child this week as they were killed in Florida crash.

Christopher and Brittany Hesling, of St Mary’s Georgia, were traveling with their two children in Alachua County, Florida earlier this week. The had their 4-year old son and 4-month old baby in the backseat of their Toyota RAV 4 when they were hit by a wrong-way driver.

An unidentified man in a 2019 Hyundai Elantra was traveling on State Road 24, just north of Gainesville, when he started to drive down the wrong side of the road. His car crashed into the car being driven by the Heslings at full speed.

Both Christopher and Brittany Hesling were pronounced dead at the scene. Their 4-year old son was taken to UF Heath at Shands with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, the child died at the hospital shortly after arriving. The 4-month old baby, who was in his car seat, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to survive.

The man driving the 2019 Hyundai Elantra died in the accident as well.

There has been no information released as to what caused the crash. Usually, when someone is driving down the wrong side of the road, there is alcohol or drugs involved. We’ll have to wait until the results of the investigation are released.
